John R. Thomas, CFA is a Partner and Vice Chairman of Martingale. In addition to helping Martingale address critical business and strategic issues, he is responsible for strengthening major client relationships in Asia and in the Western U.S. Prior to joining Martingale in 2010, John had a 34-year career at J.P. Morgan Investment Management, including eight years on the executive committee, five years as president of J.P. Morgan Trust Bank (Japan) and ten years as head of its institutional marketing group. Most recently, John has been active as an independent consultant to investment management companies, including Martingale, and he also co-founded a hedge fund investing in small cap Japanese companies.
John holds a B.A. in economics from Ohio Wesleyan University and an M.B.A. with distinction in finance from the Wharton School. He is a CFA charterholder and a member of the CFA Society of San Francisco. John served for nine years on the Board of Trustees of Ohio Wesleyan University, and continues as a member of the University's endowment investment committee. He is also a board member of the Japan Society of Northern California.
